Nominations now open for Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year 2017
The Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year 2017 award (ASOY) was recently launched at the Amenity Forum Conference - with the chance for the top operators to win fantastic prizes, including the ultimate reward of a trip to a world-leading US turf or amenity show. This year, for the first time, sprayer operators can be nominated to take part in the Awards by employers, customers, agronomists or other members of their team. The Awards, run by the Amenity Forum and sponsored by ICL and Syngenta, aim to reward top sprayer operators across the amenity industry, and to share their best practice to enhance standards for all. The first entrants for this year’s competition were gathered from visitors to SALTEX 2016, providing the ideal opportunity for the Amenity Forum, ICL and Syngenta to reinforce the reasoning behind the ASOY awards.
Amenity Forum’s independent Chairman, Professor John Moverley said: “We’ve been running the Awards for two years, and have already achieved some notable successes. First of all, it demonstrates that within the amenity sector there are some really good professional people doing their job to an excellent standard.“Secondly it promotes the whole concept of the safe use of pesticides and the use of actives being applied correctly and in a sustainable manner.”
ICL Landscape and Industrial Manager, Mark Pyrah, added: “Application is key - you could have the best fungicides in the world but it will be of no use it they are not being applied correctly. “It is all about sprayer awareness - maintaining good application to maintain the product so that the individual is promoting best practice.”
Daniel Lightfoot, Syngenta UK Business Manager, believes that the Awards could be a shining light during a testing time within the industry: “I think these Awards are extremely important to help the industry protect the chemistry that is currently available, and ensure new products being launched are retained for the future. “Accurate application, ably demonstrated by the skills of all the ASOY entrants, is a key element of effective stewardship of products and helping to ensure they will remain available,” he said. “We know there are a great number of really good operators out there, who possibly don’t feel confident enough to put themselves forward for the Award; I would urge them to get involved for the experience and knowledge they could share, and the real opportunity to win an incredible trip to the US,” added Daniel. “Furthermore, it is also a great way for employers to show confidence in their staff, by nominating their operators for an Award.”
There are three ASOY awards up for grabs and sprayer operators can enter any one of the following:
● Sports turf using boom sprayer or hand held equipment
● Landscape & Industrial using vehicle mounted equipment
● Landscape & Industrial using hand held equipment
Each category winner will receive a trophy and the overall winner across the three categories will then have the option of winning:
• Flights, accommodation and entry to the GCSAA 2018, San Antonio, Texas
or
• Flights, accommodation and entry to GIE Expo 2018, Louisville, Kentucky,
or
• ICL/Syngenta products to the value of £2,000
